Future thoughts

(A quick scan of some sketches during my Design History class, click for a full size)

So, over the past few weeks I've been contemplating just what I want to do when I finally get out of Truman State and go out into the real world. I feel like my drawing skills are not up to the level that they once were (and I'm sure a little practice is going to fix that). However, I really, really want to get a job where my illustrative style can be put to good use. This wasn't really an issue for me until after last weekend.

Last Saturday, I took a trip back to my home town, St. Louis, with a bunch of Viscom friends for the AIGA student conference and portfolio review. We got to have a round table discussion with Debbie Millman (and she is AWESOME by the way) and have our portfolio's critiqued by professional designers. The whole experience made me realize how much my drawings, when placed into my designs, gave life to my work. I really need to create some of my own work to place into my portfolio before I graduate that has nothing to do with school projects. As if I don't have enough to do already...
